The Story of Lake Acworth Village

Acworth has been a city for more than 145 years, making it one of Cobb County’s oldest and most historic cities. Today, the more than 300 historic homes and buildings in Acworth are an important testimony to the city’s past.

At the turn of the 20th century, a number of architecturally significant Craftsman-style bungalows were built in the city. These historic bungalows and neighborhoods have given birth to Lake Acworth Village, a historic reproduction that includes authentic details such as Craftsman columns and trim, covered porches, sunrooms, cedar shake gables and lantern street lights.

The Atlanta Regional Commission has designated Acworth as Cobb County’s No. 1 most livable city because of its quality of life as measured in such areas as location, educational opportunities, public safety, and parks and recreation.

Acworth’s seven schools include new primary and middle schools, a magnet high school and an excellent private school, North Cobb Christian. In the fall of 2006, Acworth was the only city in the state of Georgia to open two new schools: McCall Primary and Barber Middle School. The two new schools signify the importance of education in Acworth while the entire Cobb County School System continues to receive national acclaim. Acworth is also home to the fastest growing technical college in the state, North Metro Technical College, and Kennesaw State University is just minutes away.

Lake Acworth Village is conveniently located at I-75 and Glade Road, giving its citizens an easy commute to downtown Atlanta. It is also within walking distance of historic downtown Acworth’s shopping and fine dining. A new fire station with top-quality EMT service provides the best public safety with response times of three minutes. In addition, quality hospital care is only minutes away at WellStar Hospital in Marietta.

Recreation opportunities are close at hand for residents of Lake Acworth Village. Acworth has more than 750 acres of parks, including two beaches on beautiful Lake Acworth and two on 12,000-acre Lake Allatoona’s 270 miles of shoreline.

More than 6 million visitors a year enjoy the 12 parks. The walking trails provide a sanctuary for picnicking, swimming, camping, fishing and boating. Also located just minutes from Lake Acworth Village is Cobblestone Golf Course. The course was awarded a four-star rating by Golf Digest and named one of the Top 100 golf courses by Golf Magazine.

The city has been careful to promote quality growth with the creation of the Highway 41 shopping district. The district features all of the big-name national retailers less than 10 minutes from Lake Acworth Village. Meanwhile, the city’s historic downtown features unique boutiques and fine dining. Together, they allow local residents to enjoy great shopping opportunities without the traffic hassles.

These quality of life components have motivated families to choose Acworth and there remains a hometown feeling to be experienced by everyone that lives in or visits the city. It’s a reminder of a simpler lifestyle with less hustle and bustle.
